The Tsimiroro Heavy Oil project resulted from the signature of Production Sharing Contract, for Hydrocarbons Exploration and Exploitation in the Tsimiroro block (Block 3104), between OMNIS, as the representative of the Malagasy State, and Madagascar Oil SA (MOSA) in 2004.

The exploration works carried out by MOSA led to commercial discovery in 2013, resulting in the approval of the field development plan in 2015.

The exploitation mining title of Hydrocarbons and the transport mining title of hydrocarbons were therefore granted to MOSA by the Malagasy State for a period of 25 years.

MOSA is currently in the development phase during which the company is setting up the facilities required for the production and transportation of the extracted Hydrocarbons.

Located in the sedimentary basin of Morondava, more precisely, straddling the Melaky and Menabe regions, it is estimated that the Tsimiroro oil field contains 1.7 billion barrels of heavy oil.
