The Sakoa Coal Project stemmed from the conclusion of the partnership agreement between Yoxford Holdings (YOXFORD) and National Supply & Services Company S.A (NASSCO S.A), a subsidiary of OMNIS. T he company Madagascar Consolidated Mining S.A (MCM) was therefore created for Sakoa Coal exploration and exploitation. YOXFORD holds 80% of the shares in MCM while OMNIS holds 20%.

The Sakoa Coal basin is located in the Betioky Atsimo district where the Project is established. The various studies conducted for the Project have led to an estimate of reserves of 870 million tonnes of coal in place.
